Students from North Andover, Andover, and Lawrence have a chance to showcase their patriotic spirit by submitting poems for the upcoming Field of Honor commemoration sponsored by the Exchange Club of Lawrence and the Andovers. The event will feature 500 American flags on the North Andover Common from May 27 to June 17, with the selected poems also on display. The deadline for submissions is May 15th, and the poems should be 250 words or less and focus on the flag, Field of Honor, or those who have nobly served. A panel will choose some of the poems to be read by the author at the Close-of-Field ceremony on June 17th. To submit, students should include their name, school, age, teacher, and email address with their titled poem. Additionally, residents can purchase flags dedicated to veterans, first responders, public servants, teachers, or other VIPs for $49. The flag will include a tag with the honoree's name and message, and the proceeds will support veterans, scholarships, Youth and Unsung Heroes awards, and prevent child abuse through the Michael B. Christensen Family Support Center. Purchase the flag online, and keep it, the tag, and the pole after the event to display at home. For more information, visit the event's website.
